You should allow a minimum of seven weeks from the time of submission to the time of your oral:

1. Submit two readers' copies of the dissertation to the graduate assistant.
2. Four weeks are allowed for faculty to read the thesis (not counting any vacation time that intervenes).
3. After the reports are submitted, one weekis allowed for any faculty dissent.
4. Bound copies are then submitted to "lie in state" for two weeks.
5. The oral can be held at any point after the bound copies have been in the office for two weeks.

This is the absolute minimum time. There are factors that can push the process into a longer period of time. Please ask questions if you have any.
