Abstract:  "The sex/gender distinction” is often held to be central to feminist theory, although there is not much agreement on the proper way to draw it. There are four main candidates. Three are misleadingly labeled as the distinction between sex and gender, for a number of reasons. The remaining candidate is exactly what the sex/gender distinction should be, if there is such a thing. But (I shall argue) this turns out to be no distinction at all.
