What if most of what we know about Spinoza was a myth ? Three general features are associated to Spinoza's life. It is well known that he was excluded from the Jewish community because of his philosophical ideas; that he was a lens grinder; and that he is the author of an extraordinary philosophical system. The most recent research shows that this official historiography introduced a series of biases in the interpretations of the documents. In a brief synthesis, I will exemplify how non-academic forms of writing can help academic research, and how the humanities could reconcile with the very concept of... a mythology.
