After serving on a Graduate School task force that examined faculty mentoring of grad students at Princeton, Department of Philosophy Professor and Director of the Program in Classical Philosophy Hendrik Lorenz was appointed Vice Dean for Strategic Initiatives in the Graduate School for the 2024-2025 academic year. The role is part of an Ivy+Mellon fellowship.
Lorenz, who also served as the Department of Philosophy’s Director of Graduate Studies for nearly a decade, recently shared his thoughts on mentoring and his new role with the Graduate School’s Tracy Meyer.
“My goal is to foster an expanding community of faculty members and graduate students who will learn together to be more effective mentors and mentees, in conversation with one another and others in the Graduate School and the McGraw Center for Teaching and Learning” Lorenz said. “I hope this community will keep growing long after I return to my faculty position in the Philosophy department.”
