The Department of Philosophy was sad to learn of the passing of our friend and colleague Emeritus Professor Harry Frankfurt (1929 – 2023), a valued member of the department from 1990 until his retirement in 2002. 

The author of many works, Frankfurt is perhaps best known for his No. 1 New York Times best seller “On Bullshit” (Princeton University Press), which earned him a bit of celebrity status and television appearances including “The Daily Show with Jon Stewart.” 

The Department extends its deepest sympathies to Harry’s wife Joan and daughters Kate and Jennifer and their families. The University flag over East Pyne will fly at half-staff in his memory July 20-24, 2023.
