Vale Saul Kripke (1940-2022)

Saul Kripke, Emeritus Professor, and Professor in the Department of Philosophy from 1978-1998, has passed away at the age of 81. One of the most influential philosophers and logicians of the last half-century, his most celebrated work, Naming and Necessity, was based on lectures given at Princeton in 1970 in the ‘Three Lecture Series’ (subsequently renamed the 'Hempel Lectures’). His writings on reference, descriptions, truth, set theory, modal logic, and many other topics, are read by every philosopher and student of philosophy.
